It’s as simple as I’m happier in the city than I would be anywhere else. And with anywhere, I mean, the countryside, Suburbs, in the mountains, the woods, and places that are nowhere, but also, here are some of the other reasons why I love living in the city and so should you!
1. The convenience
I love how close everything is to each other, the buildings, the store’s public transit, everything in the city screams convenience. How busy it all seems, all the time every day is something I’m welcome too. That kind of pace works with my ever-growing curiosity with surroundings.
2. Innovation
The city is a base for innovation, at least for me. It keeps my creative bug floating with awareness every time I’m out and focused on being open-minded. It keeps me alive. I feel drawn to whatever it is it has to offer in that realm of things. It keeps me happy. It’s a constant. For example, when I’m in New York City, I love sitting in Bryant Park and watch my surroundings. Everything you see can tell a story if you want it too. You see every different kind of person doing whatever it is that’s pleasing to them at the moment you can, and you could tell a story out of it.
3. Distraction
Once in a while, you will need a distraction for whatever your reasons might be. The city always gives me that from the skyscrapers to finding cool coffee spots, fantastic parks, yes, cities have parks, different kinds of people and vibes, excellent restaurants, and did I mention that all these things can be in a walking distance? Or just a train stop away? The city has got you!
4. Confident builder
Being in the city, you meet different people and exposure to many different kinds of things. Either you will find yourself talking to a stranger as we like to call them, or doing something that you usually would not do. The list of trying new things because of exposure to them is endless, like taking water taxis and kayaking on the river or the lake. Attending concerts like the jazz festival, art exhibitions, and giving strangers directions are things I would not normally do if I was in the burbs or countryside because there’s not much going on around.
5. Accessibility
Moving from one city to another city within a major city is not that difficult. You can walk to that city, take an Uber at a low price, or use public transportation conveniently in most cities. I love that. Although I enjoy driving, I love the fact that I don’t necessarily need to own a car if I live in the city. I had a car before, and it made sense having it because I was in the burbs, but when I moved to the city and got rid of it, that decision came with benefits such as I wasn’t paying insurance anymore, packing, monthly car payments and so much more. So it goes without saying that although it states that living in the city can be expensive, it’s all been worth it, and I feel like it all comes down to something being worth it.
6. It’s not always that crowded as people think it is.
Most people have the city’s perception as always crowded, has too much going on, and is noisy everywhere. It’s not the case. The city has its different parts, and depending on what kind of vibe speaks to you, that’s what you go for. But there is something for everyone if you want to explore a specific taste.
The loop, River North, Westloop, WickerPark, and Old town are some of my favorite areas in the city here in Chicago. As listed, they all have a different vibe to them, and that sort of thing works well with me. It’s a little change that makes all the difference.
7. It’s my happy place
I think that it all comes down to this part right here, that the city is my happy place, to be honest. The suburbs have loneliness it holds whenever I am there, the fact that I see cars more than people and that getting from point A to Point B requires one to have a car even though its a 15 minutes walk does not seem right to me. All that comes without saying that I feel miserable in the burbs, and the city brings me a feeling of joy and contentment. It all comes down to that
Finally, if you are young in your youth and you get a chance to live in the city, take it! It offers many opportunities and experiences you won’t get anywhere else.
